Frequently Asked Questions

What is a meta search engine?
A meta search engine queries multiple engines at the same time and combines the results from all engines. This allows users to conveniently obtain results from several search sources in a single search.

How does BigTop meta search work?
BigTop utilizes the API from poular search engines to combine the results from different engines together and then displays the results according to a unique ranking logic with duplicate results removed.

How is BigTop different from other meta search engines?
Just as regular search engines vary from one ot another, meta search engines also vary in the way they work to produce their results. BigTop uses a unique ranking logic to provide the best results from top search engines, with weighted preference for results that appear in more than one engine. Additionally, BigTop's results are drawn from natural/organic search engine listings; we do not mix sponsored/paid listings in with our results.

Why Does BigTop show only one page of Search Results?
Most people rarely look beyond the first three pages of search results. For simplicity, BigTop only counts results that appear on the first three pages (or first thirty results) in a search engine. Those results are then displayed all on one page within BigTop so that users can easily scan all of the results among each other rather than flipping back and forth between multiple pages with 10 results each. Basically, when you view BigTop's search results it is the equivalent of viewing the first three result pages in Google, Yahoo and MSN all at once (with duplicates removed).
